The Dunsmuirs of Nanaimo is a Kindle This item was prepared in conjunction with two plays on the Dunsmuirs performed at the Nanaimo Festival in 1989.As such this is more of an overview of the history of the Dunsmuir family and their importance to Nanaimo. It can be viewed as being complementary to the plays. As such it does its job well. It gives you enough information so that you are familiar with who the Dunsmuirs are and why they are important to Nanaimo. At the same time it doesn't give away too much information and hence make you decide to forgo seeing the plays. Of course this does pose a problem when you are reading it long after the plays have been performed. For instance it is stated in the book that Robin Dunsmuir would disgrace the family and was told by his father, James, not to return to Canada. But no details of this are mentioned in the volume. Still, this is a useful volume. My rating is only due to the brevity of the work and the frustrating omission of details I am interested in..
